UCAC2 Catalogue
The UCAC2 or Second U.S. Naval Observatory CCD Astrograph Catalog, is a catalogue of 48,330,571 stars covering the sky from -90 to +40 degrees in declination and going up to +52 degrees in some areas. More information can be found here.
The AstroPlanner version of this catalogue is 1.2GB in size, and contains the RA/Dec, proper motion and red Magnitude for each star. To keep the size of this catalogue to a reasonable level, other information has been omitted. The included information is unchanged from the original data.
Notes:
- The catalogue is supplied on a CD-ROM, in compressed form, with an installer. It is not usable directly from the CD-ROM, and requires 1.2GB of hard disk space for installation.
- In theory, the catalogue could be burned onto a DVD-ROM and used directly from there, but access would be extremely slow.
- The catalogue is in a format only understandable by AstroPlanner, and cannot be used by other applications that might be able to use the original UCAC catalogue (on 3 CD-ROMS).
- This catalogue is mainly aimed at users in the southern hemisphere, since it gives complete sky coverage only in that location (40 - 50° S).
- The UCAC3 catalogue is apparently being released in mid 2007 and will cover the entire celestial sphere.
